The word 'Luxipolis' is composed of the Latin word for 'light' (lux) and the ancient Greek word for city (polis), so Luxipolis: the city of light. The idea behind the name was the creation of a member-based, international community of civic-minded persons who understand that, in order for civilization to survive and advance, education has to be about more than job training and career preparation. Indeed, what could be more dangerous than a nuclear-armed democracy full of idiots who think they are wise just because they've been trained to do a specialized task?
As you can see, this interest in education naturally and organically expands to an interest in governance and the institution of world peace (and, thereafter, its maintenance) . We have, then, devised a practical plan for this which may be difficult to implement in terms of generating the political will to do so, but, since we are pretty much at an evolve-or-die moment here, and since the humble caterpillar (with its transformation into a butterfly) serves up an example of what is naturally possible, we have an obligation to ourselves, to the generations that struggled to get us to this point, and to the generations of the future (if there are to be any), to give it (or a better plan if one comes along) a shot.
Since we recognize that a well-functioning democracy provides the best hope for a balanced and fair government (since benevolent philosopher-kings are hard to come by, and oligarchies tend to degenerate into selfish and small-minded plutocracies), we thought we would attempt to foster an environment and forum that would support and, to a certain extent, produce the kind of independently minded, rational, considerate, and even-handed citizens that healthy democracies need in order to function properly. To date, however, our efforts have been drowned out by the commercial interests that govern most of our lives, including which internet sites get attention and visits, and which do not.
We have suspended on-line membership registration and registration by mail, and have switched to a 'by invitation only' model, not because we wish to be exclusive (quite the contrary), but because it better accords with the organic nature of our plan for world peace. And, indeed, there is nothing to stop you, should you agree with our point-of-view, policies, and recommendations, from independently cooperating until your invitation arrives. And nothing will give us a greater incentive to invite you than to discover that you are already saying and doing things that we agree with. And, as we are firm believers in the idea of six degrees of separation, if others notice what you are doing, it will come to our attention soon enough. Of course, since we value things like independent thought and new ideas, we are not looking for total agreement about everything, so, be true to yourself and all will work out for the best.
So, now, if you are interested in what we are really about, why not take a closer look at what we have to say?
